Get in some serious self care with this easy Golden Milk Latte recipe, perfect for those busy (and hot!) summer days.

For me, there are few things as restorative as a soothing, handcrafted beverage in the morning. I take my morning ritual very seriously, as you may already know. Now, I rotate between warm lemon water, warm lemon water + ginger, Matcha green tea, herbal coffee, bulletproof coffee and teas of all different varieties, but these are all warm options- enter my iced easy Golden Milk Latte recipe. 

In the summertime, I want something chilled to help me, well, chill. 🙂

So I have a seasonal twist on my favorite recipe: a Turmeric + Ginger Latte. This is my version of the popular turmeric latte called Golden Milk. It’s sweet, a little spicy and 100% cool. 

I love to incorporate turmeric in recipes because it has so many healing properties. This bright orange-yellow tuber contains a high content of curcumin, which boosts immune function, reduces inflammation, aids in digestion, gut health, and liver function and even provides protection from some types of cancer. No wonder it is considered one of the best dosha balancers in Ayurvedic medicine!

My latte recipe actually contains zero coffee, so if you’re trying to cut down on your caffeine, this creamy treat should help you jumpstart your day without the jitters. 

Iced Golden Milk and Ginger Latte
Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond or coconut milk (preferably homemade or boxed. You can use canned coconut milk, but it will be very rich!)
  • 1 – 2 heaping teaspoons of fresh peeled & grated turmeric root
  • 1 heaping teaspoon of fresh, peeled & grated ginger root, more if you like ginger spice! (or 1 teaspoon ground)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Raw honey, organic maple syrup or stevia to taste (I use coconut or vanilla stevia)
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Pinch of ground black pepper*

* I don’t normally add this in, but pepper and turmeric together is a powerful combination: “Research supports that combining the piperine in black pepper with the curcumin in turmeric enhances curcumin absorption by up to 2,000%”. So, if you can handle a little pep in your iced latte, it’s well worth it! 

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. 
  2. Put some muscle into it and shake well. If you don’t have a shaker, you can whisk the ingredients together thoroughly — or blend in a high speed blender and enjoy the extra froth!
  3. Strain over a glass of ice. 
  4. Sprinkle with cinnamon for a lil extra on top.
  5. Sip and relax! (hammock optional)

If you want that Instagram-worthy marble mix, here’s a suggestion from 40aprons:
Stir together half of the almond milk with maple syrup first, and pour over two glasses filled with ice. In a cocktail shaker, mix together the remaining ingredients and shake very well. Strain over your iced almond milk.

If you prefer your morning bliss in smoothie form, transfer the ingredients to a blender with ice, add 2 teaspoons of organic coconut oil, and blitz until good and frothy!

Final word of advice: Handle turmeric with care. It’s bright orange-yellow, so it might stain light colored countertops.
