As actors, it’s important for us to be social. Special events, premieres, interviews and appearances are part of the business, especially the bigger your career gets!
While I love a summer soiree as much as the next person, I am also mindful of how big of a tab my celebrating racks up, health wise, especially when alcohol is free and flowing. I want to feel my best in case I bump into an industry contact or have an audition the next morning, but I also want to enjoy the moment.
Here’s one of my favorite healthy cocktails, perfect for toasting the July 4th long weekend without bringing any fireworks home with you! After all, who wants to head back to work with a holiday hangover?
This Watermelon Mint Mezcal Cocktail is not only perfectly patriotic, but it also offers a delicious taste of summertime.
What makes this a Healthy Cocktail?
Well, I’ll be the first to acknowledge that alcohol in and of itself is not a health or superfood. BUT a homemade cocktail made with real ingredients like fresh watermelon, blueberries, and mint can be a wonderful alternative to traditional BBQ beverages.
That first sip that makes your taste buds tingle and your mind say, “Aaahhhhhh” is cause enough to ditch the canned stuff this weekend.
Plus, this cocktail recipe has zero added sugar, processed syrups, or weird glow-in-the-dark mixers (just say NO to Blue Curacao!). So, your holiday will be more happy dance and less hangover slump.
This 100% real ingredient, healthy cocktail is full of vitamin C and extra hydrating electrolytes, so it’s the perfect party drink! It’s also naturally sweet for those sweet-toothed beauties out there!
And the smokiness of the Mezcal combined with the natural sweetness of the watermelon will totally tickle your taste buds. Give me sweet and smoky, and I’m stoked! And if you don’t imbibe, this cooler is perfect sans alcohol too.

You can use any high-quality tequila, or vodka if that’s your jam! When I enjoy a cocktail, I stick to spirits that are the lowest in sugar, carbs and empty calories, and for me, tequila and vodka fit the bill best. I can splurge a little without having to worry about it leaving me feeling wrecked later.
So, don your best red, white and blue, and prepare for a refreshing and relaxing July 4th with this healthy holiday cocktail recipe! And if you’re looking for a few more healthy options, check these recipes out too.
