It’s time to swap your Snickers for some healthy homemade candy. sure, it is easy to grab a bar on your way out of the store, but have you read the label on the back of those bags lately? That’s the real trick, my friends! Corn syrup, condensed milk, partially hydrogenated palm kernel oil, invert sugar (what the what?), natural and artificial flavors, brown sugar, cane sugar and more types of sugar.
I get it, guys. I used to LOVE candy too (shout out to See’s candies), but these processed ingredients and chemicals will just spike your blood sugar through the roof. And what goes up must come down. Plus, it’s so easy to overindulge when the portion sizes are small! So when you hit that inevitable low in artificial energy, you reach for more sugar. Before you know it, you’ve spiraled your way through a jumbo bag of M&Ms.
So before you sneak a huge handful of mini Snickers and jump on the sugar craving rollercoaster, give this sweet recipe a try and leave the bite sized bars for the kiddos—or better yet make this recipe for them! It’s quick, easy and, most importantly, REAL.
My Sexy Superfood Candy
(Refined Sugar & Dairy Free!)
Makes: 24-30
Ingredients
• 1 cup extra virgin coconut oil
• ¾ cup raw chocolate cacao powder
• ¼ cup organic raw almond butter
• ¾ cup almond flour
• ¼ cup organic unsweetened shredded coconut
• ¼ to ½ cup pure organic maple syrup (test for sweetness!)
• 1 tablespoon organic vanilla
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• ¼ tsp course Celtic Sea Salt
Instructions
-
Spray an ice cube tray (a fun shaped ice tray even better!) with nonstick coconut oil spray or use mini cupcake tins and papers.
-
In saucepan, melt coconut oil over low heat. Once coconut oil is liquified, pour oil into medium bowl. You can use a food processor if you have one!
-
Slowly whisk in almond butter, cinnamon, maple syrup one at a time.
-
Next, whisk in vanilla.
-
Then slowly stir in cacao, almond flour, coconut, one at a time, sprinkling evenly as you go.
-
Batter should run off of spoon. Spoon into ice cube tray, or cupcake papers.
-
Top with cashews, almond bits, pumpkin seeds, goji berries, cacao nibs and/or edible flowers!
-
Chill in freezer for 15 minutes. Use butter knife to carefully remove chocolates from ice tray if needed.
-
Eat and bliss out.
Optional: Try adding in a few drops of your favorite edible essential oil when mixing: peppermint, lavender, rose.
