Have you ever read a book so good that you keep coming back to it again and again? That’s how I feel about Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic: How to Live a Creative Life, and Let Go of Your Fear.
Whenever I find myself in a slump in my business or at a creative low, this book always delivers the inspiration I need.
You may recognize Gilbert’s name from her Eat Pray Love fame, the story of her journey across the globe to reconnect with herself and transform her life. Now her books become instant New York Time bestsellers, but it’s not without merit.
Gilbert was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award, and she is also a Pushcart Prize winner and National Magazine Award-nominated journalist. Her journalism has been published in Harper’s Bazaar, Spin, and The New York Times Magazine, and her stories have appeared in Esquire, Story, and the Paris Review.
What sets Big Magic apart is how Gilbert breaks down the complex and personal experience that is inspiration in a way that’s relatable to everyone. Even if you’re not a so-called “creative” person, I promise this book will help you see that we all have a creative edge. She also provides exercises, stories and action items to help you reach for what you want most and build a joyful, fulfilling life and career.
