Hello, my bright + beautiful Plante Lifers!
Last week, we took a big bite out of our day with some power-packed recipes. Today, I want to talk about another way breakfast time can fill not just your belly, but your mind and spirit too: breakfast clubs.
All around the globe, savvy women are gathering in the mornings to mingle, discuss important issues and causes, and create relationships and opportunities for one another – all over mimosas and eggs. These gatherings are an excellent way to connect with a diverse group of professional women, especially if you work in a male-dominated field, as well as a perfect chance to flex your brain early in the morning.
Here are my favorite resources to narrow down your search for a group near you, and get your Power Breakfast on – 2019 style.
CreativeMornings
CreativeMornings is a breakfast lecture series for the global creative community. Their vast website can connect you with a group in almost any major city on the planet. Most of their events are free, and because they partner with major companies, you can hear directly from top level executives about how they handle the whole work-life balancing act. Plus, you can scan their website for job openings in tons of creative fields.
If you work from home, you should definitely check out their compilation of past talks for freelancers here.
Co-working Spaces
Speaking of telecommuting, co-working spaces typically have a built-in social aspect to them, which includes networking events and guest speakers. These are often free with your membership fees you’re already paying to use the space, so why not take advantage of the free bagels, coffee and conversation. Check out WeWork, The Wing, and RISE Collaborative Workspace.
Online Event Sites
If you’re looking for a specific topic of interest, or you live in a smaller city, give your local event search engines a chance. Meetup.com, Eventbrite and even Facebook Events can show you some rad local morning meet ups you didn’t even know existed. You may even spy a friend or two also interested, so get on the phone and make a girl date ASAP.
Universities & Museums
You can find informative and interesting breakfast lecture series at even some of the smallest universities and museums around the country. These are great opportunities to embrace that Beginner Mindset and dive into a topic you’ve always wanted to explore more. In this environment of learning, questions are encouraged, and you can get access to the people on the ground, making a difference in a particular field right now.
Start Your Own!
If you cannot find another organization discussing the topics important to you and your gal pals, create your own breakfast club. I am obsessed with the beautiful online tutorial this group of developers, led by Matt Baxter and Jason Holland, created. It gives you a step-by-step on how to curate your own Creative Breakfast Club, with tips and resources to ensure a solid start and realistic expectations.
Have you already tried out a breakfast club in your area? How was your experience? Let me know in the comments below, and share your favorite groups for your fellow curious Plante Lifers!
