Hello, my simply sinful Plante Lifers!

STEP AWAY FROM THE CANDY CORN, my friend!! And no, that’s not Step One, but I did get your attention. 😉

Okay, I’m sure you attended some good Halloween soirees this past week—along with all of the Halloween candy circulating the office, your house and your kid’s bedrooms. How did you do this Halloween? Did you make out like a candy bar bandit?

Now, I love me some Halloween holiday action, but what I don’t love is the “The Halloween Hangover”. Yes, it’s not just a scary story; it’s real. I’ve talked about it before, and I’ll talk about it again!

Are you feeling sluggish or bloated? Did your face suddenly break out? Are you craving sugar like it’s going out of style?

If you’re feeling any of the above, you know what I’m talking about here.

Let’s just get down and dirty for a minute—sugar makes you fat, tired, grumpy and ugly. I wish I was kidding about this, but it’s actually quite serious. Eating fat doesn’t make you fat, sugar does. Eating too much sugar and carbs are the reason that most people are tired all the time as well. Not to mention that sugar zaps the collagen in your skin and dulls your complexion, making you look like a zombie way after October 31.

Most Americans consume up to three pounds of sugar every week—that’s up to 140 pounds of sugar in one year!! It’s not always easy to get away from sugar because they put it in almost everything these days. It’s added to so many processed foods we eat, not just in the foods we consider sweets or desserts.

So, if you’re suffering from the Halloween Hangover, here are MY TOP 5 TIPS to help you detoxify your bod and recover from the candy coma.

Daily Detox: Start your day with a large glass of warm water with the juice of ½ an organic lemon to gently detoxify your liver, help digestion, curb those candy cravings, boost your immune system, energy and mood, and rejuvenate your skin. Drink lots of water throughout the day to keep your system moving too!

Better yet, check out my Lemon, Ginger & Turmeric Tonic recipe!

Be a Green Machine: Eat meals heavy on the greens, non-starchy vegetables, healthy fats (nuts and seeds, olive oil, coconut oil, avocados, and omega 3s), and lean proteins to get your blood sugar back in check. Jumpstart your day with organic eggs and a green smoothie!

Lose the Leftovers: Give that remaining Halloween candy away immediately or just put it in the garbage. As a last resort, freeze your leftover candy, so at least it’s out of sight! This way, you won’t mindlessly munch on it, plus waiting for the candy to defrost gives you extra time to consider if it is what you are really hungry for!

Or avoid the Halloween candy all together, and make your own Superfood Chocolate Candy with this recipe!

Question Your Craving: Ask yourself before you grab that handful of candy if that is what you are really hungry for? Are you mindlessly or emotional eating? Is this choice pushing you closer to your goals or further away? And most importantly, how are you going to feel afterwards?

Candy Binge Bounce Back: If all else fails and you do find yourself with a Halloween Hangover, do not fret! You’re only human, so please don’t let this trigger a self shame spiral that derails you. Just start fresh and jump back on the healthy horse!

Just a reminder: The holidays are upon us, my friends, so now is the perfect time to start keeping a food journal and get a support system in place. If you haven’t started using My Fab Food Journal, it’s time to bust it out! You will become accountable to yourself quickly, which is so empowering!

I hope these Halloween Hangover tips help you recover in a hurry! Do you have any tips and tricks that help you move past the Halloween sugar high? Let me know in the comments below!

LOVE + happy holidays!
